About the Rest of the World All-Stars

The Rest of the World originally started out as the Rest of the World Rebels, however, following their defeat in 2014 it was decided to change the Rebels moniker to All-Stars, hence they now go under the name Rest of the World All-Stars.

This year the All-Stars will be captained by Snyder Cup veteran Jason Trimmer.  Trimmer has been an ever present in both Snyder Cups but was a shock choice when immediately after their 2015 win it was announced he would be succeeding outgoing Captain Nick Hancock.

It was widely expected the captaincy would either go to Paul Coates or Tony Startup.  Coates is the only undefeated player in the history of the tournament and he has vast experience of playing golf around the world, including a significant spell in Bermuda when he captained his club and bought his handicap down into single figures.  However, Coates has had an acrimonious relationship with the rest of his team, having been labelled a loner who only plays for himself by the rest of his team mates.  On the other side of the coin Coates was desperately disappointed to be overlooked for both the Captaincy and Vice-Captaincy in previous years.  On the eve of last years’ tournament, he launched a furious tirade on social media at teammates, calling Hancock 'Captain Shit-out', labelling Startup a 'little grey haired ginger Irish prick', Walker a 'bald headed bastard' and Armstrong a 'two-bit lawyer'.

Startup had been Vice-Captain the previous two tournament and Hancock had been personally grooming him for many years for the role.  At the time it was thought he was grooming him for Captaincy but following the announcement of Trimmer it appears Hancock may be grooming Startup for other reasons.

Meet this years players
Jason Trimmer

Captain

Jason made his debut in the innagural tournament is 2014 and has been an ever present since

All-Stars shocked the golfing world when they again overlooked unbeaten veteran Paul Coates for the Captains role.  However, that was nothing to the seismic waves caused when they named Jason as this years skipper ahead of the highly fancied Coates and Startup.

Simon Armstrong

Deputy Vice Capatin

Simon made his Snyder Cup debut at the Belfry in 2015

Simons powerful, long straight hitting, expert course mangement and deft touch around the greens in his last days singles match was some of the greatest 16 handicap golf ever witnessed.  Simon (or Mr. Straight Arrow as he's known to his friends) will be one the Spitfires will look to avoid in the draw.

Dave Dickinson
Nick Hancock

Vice-Captain

A Snyder Cup ever present, made his debut at the Belfry in 2014.

Following a momumentally disastrous Captains performance in the innagural tournament, Nick redeemed himself last year when he led the All-Stars to their first, and only Snyder Cup victory.  Needs to concentrate on his own game this after a disasterous Snyder Cup playing career so far.

Murray Walker

Shadow Vice Captain

Murray also made his Snyder debut in 2015 at the Belfry.

A hugely talented golfer on his day Walker, (or Senator Hothead as he likesto be known on the circuit) had been overlooked in the previous years squad due to his suspect temperament. However, he kept his calm last year to record an excellent  victory in the four- somes before collapsing in the final day singles..

Robbie White

Deputy Shadow Vice-Captian

One of two All-Stars debutants this year.

Dicko is an experienced club golfer and is expected to bring some much needed class and honour to the All-Stars team. A welcome addition to Snyder Cup 2016

Deputy Shadow Vice-Captian

The other All-Stars debutant for Snyder Cup 2016

Robbie will doubtless go straight into the All-Stars hall of fame as one of their greatest ever golfers.  Playing off of 6 he's second only to Coates in terms of raw, natural ability.

Anthony Startup

Vice-Captain

Tony is another All-stars ever present, making his debut in 2014.

After being Vice-Captain for every tournament it was expected that Tony would finally Captain the team this year.  However, following intervention from outgoing Skipper Nick Hancock, Tonys dream of Captaining the All-stars was destroyed by the bald-headed water finding giant.

Paul Coates

The last of the All-Stars ever presents, making his debut in 2014.

Coates remains the only player in Snyder Cup history never to have lost a match in any form. However, he is very keen to finally test himself properly this year and for his Captain to send him out early on the last day. Coates has unfortunately only ever played in dead rubbers in the final day singles.

He has always been a strong performer in the Snyder Cup though, especially when he was up against Spitfires most experienced player, the 11 handicapper Kevin Plumb in the fourballs last year.

Plumb, a real life Grandad who has played golf for over 50 years against 1000's of golfers was unequivical in his praise for Coates performance.

"Paul Coates is without a shadow of doubt doubt the best 15 handicap golfer I have ever seen in all my 50 years of playing and watching golf.  In fact I'd go as far as to say he is the best 15 handicap golfer the world has ever seen."

High praise indeed from one of the most experienced club golfers there is.  So much so Plumb has withdrawn from the tournament in honour of Coates 15 Handidcap.
